The Allegany Alumni & Friends Band (AAFB) is a community concert band consisting of volunteer musicians from western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania. When originally formed in June 2000, the band was comprised entirely of alumni from Allegany Central School. Over the years, though, the band has grown to include many local friends who also share a passion for music.
AAFB plays year-round, but is most busy during the summer months, entertaining audiences at local parks, festivals, parades, and charity events. At each concert, the band plays a combination of traditional marches, circus marches, patriotic music, novelty peices, and a variety of concert band selections.

A Gaelic Ballad (Frank Erickson)
All Glory Told (James Swearingen)
The Phantom of the Opera (Johnnie Vinson)
Andrew Lloyd Webber: A Symphonic Portrait (Jerry Nowak)*
*this is a YouTube audio clip by a high school band in Texas
Rolling Thunder (Henry Fillmore)
The Footlifter (Henry Fillmore)
* Next rehearsal: Thursday, April 7.
* AAFB played at two St. Bonaventure men's basketball games while the
student pep band was on winter break. The basketball team's triple
overtime win on January 8th gave new meaning to the phrase
"and the band played on . . ."!
* WOW! What a concert for our 10th anniversary! It was probably our
best performance ever! We are so grateful to the sisters and staff
of St. Elizabeth's Motherhouse for graciously allowing us to hold our
benefit concert in their "home". The audience members thoroughly
enjoyed the music, and band members heard dozens of wonderful
comments afterwards. We raised $500 and two full tables of food for
the Olean Food Panty. (The $500 will purchase 3,500 pounds of food
from the Buffalo Food Bank--another WOW!)
* Congratulations to the new 2010-2011 Board of Directors:
Jim Schultz, Lynn Brook, Patty VanSkiver, Dennis Wymer,
Mary Carls, Nancy Phearsdorf, and Tom Gabler. (We send a big
THANK YOU to outgoing Board member, Virginia Baxter, for several
years of service to the band!)
* What a great turnout for the Purple Heart Memorial dedication at the
Buffalo Naval Park, on May 1, 2010. (Thanks, everyone!)
